How to Install Composite Decking in Three Steps

A confident DIYer can lay a typical garden deck over a weekend with standard tools.

  1. Select Your Board Range

Choose between our Classic solid-core boards and the Shield capped range with its 360° polymer sleeve. Both fit the same hidden clip system, so you can mix ranges across zones of the same garden.

  2. Prepare Your Substructure

Lay treated timber or aluminium joists at 300mm centre-to-centre spacing on a firm, free-draining base. Correct centres keep every board rigid underfoot and protect your 25-year warranty.

  3. Install with Hidden Clip Systems

Snap stainless steel clips into the board grooves and screw once per joist — no visible fixings. The clips set perfect, seamless 3mm side and 6mm end gaps automatically as you go.

Why choose Enrico composite decking

360° Enrico Shield™ Capped Protection

Every Shield board is wrapped on all four sides in a co-extruded polymer sleeve, bonded to the core during manufacture. That 360° cap seals the wood-plastic core against water, red wine, oil and barbecue fat, shrugs off UV so the colour you choose is the colour that stays, and keeps every board in a batch perfectly consistent — no staining, sealing or repainting, ever.

Seamless Finish with Hidden Fixing Clips

  • Stainless steel clips sit inside the board groove — no screw heads on the surface.
  • Clips gauge perfect 3mm side and 6mm end gaps for drainage and expansion.
  • Completely smooth, splinter-free surface that's safe for bare feet and paws.
  • Around 40% faster to lay than face-screwing each board twice per joist.
Rain water beading and dispersing on decking boards

Tested for British Weather: Certified Anti-Slip

Our brushed grain surface is wet pendulum slip tested to a certified Pendulum Test Value of PTV ≥36 — the HSE's “low slip risk” threshold — in the rain, not just the lab. Grooved profiles channel water away instead of pooling it, and the capped surface starves algae and moss of the damp timber fibres they feed on, keeping the deck sure-footed through a British winter.

Sustainable Living with Zero Annual Maintenance

Each board diverts roughly 12kg of reclaimed hardwood fibre and recycled plastic from landfill, and not a single fresh tree is felled to make one. Once it's down, the yearly ritual of sanding, staining and re-oiling simply disappears — an occasional brush and soapy rinse is the entire maintenance schedule for the life of the deck.
